Two hand-drawn family trees of his paternal and maternal lines are available. My direct ancestors are shown in bold in my blogposts. Links to sources online (free or on subscription sites) are provided as much as possible.
In 2013 I said:
"I set up this blog several years ago after Blogcity, where I had my first MyRoots blog, closed down. Now I'm going to try again, but be more organised this time. I have lots of data on nearly 3000 people in documents, databases, photos, weblinks and on paper, and I need to try to make better sense of it all. So I am going to start with what I know about each of my great-grandparents and work back and sideways from there, hopefully giving me some useful reference points, parking problems and noting them solved (hopefully) in a way which might be more meaningful than just the family history software I use. Because I'm a family historian, not a genealogist - so I'm interested in more than the births, marriages and deaths, the dates and places, and want to know more about my ancestors' lives.
I expect this to continue to be a long journey, and given that work and other life fills a lot of my time, it will probably also be fairly intermittent. But at least I'm making a pre-new-year-resolution start."

That resolution lasted about six months. A 2nd cousin found the blog just recently and contacted me about our shared family history. I had completely forgotten I'd started it and had instead being writing up short vignettes of each generation, starting with the parents of my paternal grandfather. Now I am going to restart the blog; since taking early retirement at the end of 2018, and then lockdown, I have revisited and double-checked my research (and discarded quite a lot of unproven bits and culled quite a few people who I really had no proof they were part of 'my family').
So now I'm starting this blog again, using my paternal grandfather James Aaron Stocking, b.1901, as a starting point, with the intention of following each of my paternal and maternal grandparents' lines in turn.
